FAQ’s

What can you tell me about the history of the house?

The home was built in 1890 for T.O. Burris and his wife Dollie. T.O. operated a dry goods store downtown with his brother. He later sold the store and became president of the Tombigbee Cotton Mill. As time passed, the T.O. Burris home fell out of the family and served as a boarding home and a restaurant. Eventually, the home stood empty for many years and fell into a state of disrepair. The home was purchased in 2001 by Jennifer Upchurch Miller who has restored the home to the glory it knew in the Gilded Age.

Today, The Painted Lady is a welcome place for guests desiring the warmth and hopsitality often forgotten in our fast-paced world. Your hostess, Jennifer Upchurch Miller, looks forward to serving you and making your visit to Columbus very special.
